ISLAMABAD, Aug 31: The third round of talks between the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and the PML-Q on the Legal Framework Order is likely to be held here on Monday.

Talking to Dawn, MMA’s deputy parliamentary leader Hafiz Hussain Ahmed said that the religious parties alliance was waiting for a call from the government team about the place and time of the meeting.

In the previous two rounds held in Lahore, the two sides discussed in detail their differences over the contentious points of the LFO in which the MMA representatives Liaquat Baloch and Hafiz Hussain Ahmed were given a comprehensive briefing by the PML-Q’s constitutional expert Mr S.M. Zafar.

Hafiz Hussain Ahmed said: “In the previous rounds we explained our point of view and told them how far we could go on certain issues. Now we expect them to take a decision without being influenced by personal wishes of some individuals.”

ARD APPRISED: The MMA has taken the parliamentary leadership of the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) into confidence on the progress made in talks with the government team.

Hafiz Hussain Ahmed met ARD parliamentary leader Makhdoom Javed Hashmi here on Saturday and informed him about the religious parties alliance’s future strategy for the parleys with the government.

He expected that senior government adviser Sharifuddin Pirzada would join the next round of talks.

It is also learnt that the president’s representatives have established contacts with the People’s Party Parliamentarians in order to keep the political temperature under control and to try to clinch a tenable deal to end the political impasse.

CHANGED STRATEGY: Meanwhile, the combined opposition will go into the National Assembly session on Monday afternoon with a changed mode of protest.

A joint meeting of the MMA and the ARD parliamentary groups will be held at the parliament house before the start of the Monday session to finalize new protest strategy.

Hafiz Hussain Ahmed said that there were a number of plans under consideration.

privilege motion sought to be moved by Dr Sher Afgan Niazi invoking Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed said: “Dr Sher Afgan’s move is actually aimed at getting some members of the Jamali government disqualified as he has been hankering for a cabinet post since he switched sides.”

When asked about MMA Secretary-General Maulana Fazlur Rahman who had not attended any sitting of the current National Assembly session, Mr Hussain said he was in Karachi and was due to be in Quetta on Sept 4 along with Qazi Hussain Ahmed and added the JUI chief was scheduled to undertake a tour of the country soon.
