KARACHI, Aug 29: A high-level meeting with Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad in the chair, held at the Governor’s House on Friday, reviewed the prevailing situation in the educational institutions of the province and decided to evolve and enforce a code of ethics at all levels.

Provincial education minister Irfan Marwat, advisor to the chief minister on Home Affairs, Aftab Shaikh, Senator Prof Ghafoor Ahmed, MNA, Farooq Sattar, City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakal Qazi, Director-General Rangers and senior police officials attended the meeting.

The meeting decided that in future no outsider would be allowed to enter any educational institution without permission of its head and directed officials concerned for strict implementation of the decision without any discrimination. “In case of violation, the person involved should be booked under criminal procedure code, besides action by the department concerned,” the governor directed.

A committee was constituted for devising code of ethics for educational institutions, comprising Faisal Sabzwari, Nasrullah Shajih and DIG (operations), Tariq Jamil. The code would be finalized by Monday.

Moreover, committees would be constituted in each educational institution consisting of head of institution, teachers and representatives of students that would ensure proper implementation of the code, the meeting decided.

Mr Ibad said the government would not allow any body to destroy peace in the educational institutions.

KARO-KARI: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said that law has been finalized for inclusion in the Pakistan Penal Code to curb the infamous practice of karo-kari.

The governor was talking to a group of editors and senior journalists at a dinner hosted at the Governor’s House on Thursday.

He called for initiating efforts to mould public opinion against the abominable practice in vogue in some parts of the province.

He was of the view that in present day society there was no place for such practices.

The governor told the editors in detail the steps taken to meet the situation arising out of oil spill from Tasman Spirit which was grounded a month back near the Clifton beach.

Dr Ibad said he was personally monitoring the situation and a committee had also been constituted under the Sindh Chief Secretary Dr Mutawwakal Kazi, who was holding daily meeting to review the situation.

The governor said he had directed that the people should not be kept in dark and the factual situation not concealed.

Regarding Thal canal and Kala Bagh dam, Dr Ibad said President General Pervez Musharraf had constituted two committees, one comprising technical experts and the other consisting of members of parliament, which would review all aspects of the controversies before finalizing their report.

Dr Ibad said the government was taking care of working journalists and encroachments had been removed from the land allotted to them.

When asked about slow development of a housing project, Gulzar-i-Hijri, popularly known as Scheme-33, launched more than two decades ago, the governor said the government would examine early completion of the scheme.

About Rs29 billion development package approved by President Musharraf for Karachi, a few days ago, Mr Ibad said it would bring development to the city and boost economic activity.—PPI/APP
