PESHAWAR, July 17: Pakistan People’s Party (Sherpao) Senator Shujaul Mulk on Thursday accused the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal leadership of adopting a confrontational posture to cover up its failure in fulfilling the pledges made to the people.

In a statement, the senator said that the MMA leadership, which had grabbed votes under the garb of Islam, now wanted to create uncertainty by making everything controversial.

He alleged that the MMA was not sincere in resolving national issues and it was more interested in promoting its own objectives.

He slated Jamaat-i-Islami Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmed for his objection to the inclusion of PPP-S chief Aftab Sherpao in the government-opposition talks over the Legal Framework Order.

He said it was ironical that the JI leader had raised the objection at the behest of the PPP chairperson, against whom he had earlier launched a movement. He termed Mr Ahmed’s stand unprincipled.

He said the Jamaat leaders were responsible for the violation of human rights during the 11-year dictatorship of Gen Ziaul Haq. The party which had endorsed all the undemocratic steps of a dictator had no right to advocate the cause of democracy, he said.

Senator Mulk said the PPP-S was the second largest parliamentary party in the NWFP, which negated the Jamaat leader’s allegations that Mr Sherpao had no representative character in the province.

He claimed that the JI chief had become a National Assembly member from Nowshera due to the overwhelming support of the PPP-S.

He said the JI leader’s remarks showed his disinterest in ending the deadlock. He advised the MMA leadership not to avoid negotiations.—APP
