KARACHI, July 17: Six more persons died in rain-related incidents in different parts of the city since late Wednesday night, pushing the toll to sixteen.
Two persons died and several other passengers were injured in a road traffic accident at the Super Highway on Thursday morning.
Police said that a Karachi-bound passenger coach (F1 4895) overturned on Thursday morning near Khator Mor, Super Highway, due to the slippery road because of the early morning rain.
The two dead were identified as Alam Khatoon, 65, and the driver of the vehicle, Umar Hayat, 45.
Their bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem examination. The four injured passengers were shifted to a private hospital for treatment, the police added.
In another accident, a young man died when his motorcycle skidded in the Steel Town.
Police said that Arbab, 30, was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead.
The victim had suffered serious head injuries, the hospital sources added.
A housewife died in the Surjani Town, after the roof of her house caved in following heavy rains.
Police said that Shaista Begum, wife of Imran Ahmed, suffered serious injuries. she was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where she died during treatment.
Two persons were electrocuted in separate incidents since late Wednesday night.
Police said that Pervaiz died in Landhi Town and Iqbal died in Orangi Town, due to electrocution.
Six of a family were injured when a wall fell on their shanty squatters in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Block 15, on late Wednesday night.
The injured were shifted to the nearby private hospital for treatment.
ACCIDENT: Three bodies of the victims of a road traffic accident which took place at the Makran Coastal Highway on late Wednesday night were shifted to the city on Thursday.
Hospital sources said that bodies of Ajayab Husain, 50 and Liaquat Husain, 40, were brought to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. While body of an official of the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), identified as Javed Iqbal, was shifted to the PN Shifa.
JPMC sources, said that deaths resulted when the vehicle in which the three victim’s were travelling rammed into a stationary truck.
CAR SNATCHED: A Suzuki Mehran — (AEH-989) of Mr Zakiullah Sharif, senior sub-editor of the Business Recorder, was snatched at gunpoint by two unidentified armed men in North Nazimabad.
The car was being driven by his son Imranullah Sharif, who was intercepted by two armed men near Prince Bakery, Block-H, North Nazimabad.
An FIR has been lodged at the Hydri police station.
