ISLAMABAD/QUETTA: Defending appointment of Arsalan Iftikhar as vice chairman Board of Investment (BOI), Chief Minister Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik Baloch on Saturday said the former was appointed to recognise the services of his father, the former chief justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry for the Baloch masses.
Dr Baloch was addressing a joint press conference with the National Party (NP) chief, Senator Hasil Bizenjo in Islamabad to dispel what they called ‘misunderstandings’ with regard to the controversial appointment.
The government of Balochistan had appointed Arsalan Iftikhar as the vice chairman BOI few days back. The decision drew severe criticism from media, civil society and some opposition political parties.
Subsequently, the mounting media and political pressure worked and Arsalan Iftikhar was asked to tender his resignation on Thursday.
“I wanted to keep intact the link of Iftikhar Chaudhry with Balochistan by appointing his son as vice chairman of the BOI Balochistan,” said the chief minister.
“There was no role of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the appointment of Arsalan,” he added.
He, however, admitted that it was a wrong decision to induct Arsalan Iftikhar as the Vice Chairman Board of Investment.
“I withdrew the decision when the party chief told me to do so,” Dr Baloch said.
Speaking on the occasion, Senator Bizenjo said that Arsalan was given the post upon his request to the chief minister.
He expressed regret over the statement of Pakistan Thereek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan in this regard, adding that his party's government had never been part of any financial scandal.
In response to a question, Chief Minister Baloch stated that during the last one year, his government had established better governance as compared to the previous provincial governments.
“Nobody can show any financial scandal during the last one year,” the chief minister added.
He claimed that “90 per cent” of the province was peaceful and roads were now safe and secure.
However, when his attention was drawn on Baloch rebels living on mountains, the chief minister admitted his failure in convincing them to join the main stream politics. “They (separatist) talk with gun and we talk under the ambit of the constitution which is not acceptable to them.”
Both leaders, on the occasion rejected Dr Tahirul Qadri and Imran Khan’s “politics of agitation,” saying the NP would continue to support the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government for the sake of democracy.

From Dr. Baloch's statement one of the two things could be true. Firstly, if he had appointed Arsalan and was naive about the reaction, then he has no right to hold any political office, let alone CM of a province. Secondly, if he is making an attempt to protect someone else on whose behest he hired the son of ex-CJ, then he is sounding very lame and in this instance as well, he has no right to be CM of a province. Based on his statement, there is only conclusion, the CM should also resign for being naive and incompetent.

His father rendered services but not free of charge. He simply performed his duties. In Japan, everyone does so, every day of one's life. The son should be given the post as per his own merit. Otherwise someone else who deserves this post is punished for the services rendered by other man's father. Pakistan is not a Kingdom, its a democratic country. Making shouts about democracy but following the Monarchy or Kingdom is enough proof that there is a huge difference between saying and doing.

Now I wonder - why he was advised and finally what made him accept such controversial action.. I started to think of him - now as incompetent politician and bad governance .. If CM could not fore see such fall out from a man - who was mired in previous financial scandal - and appoint him "financial investment board - de facto Chairman " what to expect from CM in other daily judgements. IF CM smart -- he tender his resignation form CM post - to save his fallen reputation and try to repair it - people will forgive him - and perhaps he can have more cordial role as a Senator. But for him to continue as CM - is not good for the party - himself and for the province . His credibility is over . Whatever is left - he salvage it by resignation from CM post.

Arsalan was involved in millions of Rs. financial scandals - specially when court cases were pending - and according to news - those court cases are on going too.. IAG Karachi Mr. Hayat gave a certificate to a boy -- for a later appointment in Police - because the father was a police officer - gave his life in action while performing the duty. We have all been led to believe that this young man is a spoiled brat who has abused the powerful office of his father. I have listened to him in at least three programs on TV and even though the Anchors have fired away some mediocre questions at him he has come out of it as a very well presented, well spoken, well mannered well educated well informed person. He seems to be a patriotic Baluch who is serving his province and country well. He has not shown any signs that he is corrupt or who has made millions leave alone billions.
I sympathies with him at the remarks that a political leader like Imran Khan and Sheikh Rasid has made about him. In fact Imran has called rude names about Nawaz Shariff , Shabaz Shariff, Asthma Jahinger, Iftakhar Chowdry, Najam Sethi and the list goes on and on. Yet he disowns the most precious gift that God can give to anyone and that is a daughter. If Imran was a true leader and a true muslim he should tell the world proudly that he is the father of a daughter. Their is no shame in it, but their is a shame to deny it.
In our country we have very few human resources worth talking about. We have many politicians that we can safely say we would not like our children to be. I think once you get away from your brain washed ideas this young man has a future in Pakistan. In one program he came out much much better then his anchor (Takrar)
