KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon came down hard on the federal government saying the Nawaz administration failed to act when the attack on Karachi was taking place, DawnNews reported.

"The airport in Karachi came under attack on Sunday but Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar failed to react with enough immediacy," Memon said, adding that it was the country's army and security institutions that in fact saved the day.

Memon, who is part of Sindh's provincial cabinet, alleged that the federal government’s reaction to the latest attack on Karachi was cowardly at best.

He added that a search operation was underway in Karachi's Pehlwan Goth and the areas surrounding that locality.

Pehlwan Goth, located in the vicinity of Gulistan-i-Johar, is widely considered as a hub of criminal activities.

The police and Rangers conducted several raids in the area when Karachi witnessed a sudden rise in targeted killings in 2011.

Isn't Karachi in Sindh provice? What about the Chief Minister? does minister consider him to be off the hook and have no responsibility? Or is it that the minister is trying to be opportunistic?

PostMan Jun 10, 2014 04:15pm

Did anyone tell Sharjeel Memon that the attack happened in Karachi?

MA Jun 10, 2014 04:18pm

what have you done for this city's security except beefing up security protocols for your own party members and chairpersons....

Riz Jun 10, 2014 04:21pm

O come on Sharjeel! What has the Sindh Government done for improving the security situation in the country. Had the Sindh Police been better at its job, criminal elements would not have had the chance to take refuge in Karachi. So please, just take a look in the mirror before pointing fingers.

Pakistani Jun 10, 2014 04:24pm

Wow! what a brilliant coordination between provincial and federal governments at the time of crisis!!!

KAlam Jun 10, 2014 04:34pm

I feel pity on you sharjeel and can only say 'look who is talking'!

Reader Jun 10, 2014 04:53pm

Karachi police heads should be rolled

""The airport in Karachi came under attack on Sunday but Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar failed to react with enough immediacy," Memon said, adding that it was the country's army and security institutions that in fact saved the day."

Well, Chaudhary Nisar was busy looking for his superman costume... so he could magically fly down to Karachi and do the Sindh Governments job....

Is the PPP. MQM walkout from Senate and verbal disapproval of delayed and slack response of the Federal Government to Karachi Airport attack by militants is a mere coincidence or the mutually adopted truce is finally over.

Ahmed Jun 10, 2014 06:35pm

Well I am not Sindh government fan, and feel Shirjeel Mamon and Sindh CM much less than average IQ people. But I do believe Taliban get safe haven in Punjab, and both local and federal government cannot do anything about it. Remember, CM Punjab requested Taliban to spare Punjab, meaning they have license to do whatever in rest of the country.

Our Politicians are only good at putting blames on each other. They have always done that and will carry on doing it - We shouldn't expect anything from these idiots.

sabeeh omer Jun 10, 2014 07:14pm

What nonsense Sharjeel Memon! Utter failure of your government. If you have a bit of morality please QUIT!

Humanista Jun 10, 2014 07:30pm

Time to restrict severely ownership of guns etc ?

czar Jun 10, 2014 07:50pm

To educate all the commentators who are not agreeing with Sharjeel Memon, I am also not fond of Sindh government's performance but to his point, Airport administration and security is under Federal government's jurisdiction managed by federal ministry of defense and as such protected by ASF and not by the Sindh Police.

Aurang Jun 10, 2014 07:56pm

A complete and utter failure of country intelligence apparatus - they need to set their priorities right. You have only two options: either completely annihilate them i.e. killing 1m+ citizens or negotiate a deal and transform these misguided, ill-educated and unemployed rejects of society. Question is - are we capable of either of the option? I'm not so sure!!

Zainab Jun 10, 2014 08:27pm

As usual blaming each other. Sharjeel Memon talks a lot and does nothing. Its time for Chief Minister to retire - he is old and tired and has problem even thinking and talking. PMLN has not delivered anthing since coming to power. The whole world is saying that we are on our way to become a failed state?

Khan Jun 10, 2014 08:38pm

Sharjeel Memon is right. A security Analyst I was talking to in Pakistan says that although he never had much confidence in the ability of ASF, the first responders, but he says he must admit that they did an extraordinary job in containing them till the other troops arrived. Had they not been contained the disaster would have been immense.

Asif Jun 10, 2014 08:40pm

Stop this blame game and accept the fact that all institutions of the country have been systematically destroyed over the years through political interference by appointing and promoting cronies and inept people. Continues failures, be that economy, security, sports etc are a testament to this destruction.

Umar Jun 10, 2014 10:27pm

Its better to hand over sindh government to PML - N, and then criticize afterwards

OS Jun 11, 2014 12:57am

Every action/measure in Pakistan is reactive.... things happen followed by talks which dwindle down a few days after and people forget. No planning with proactive approach in dealing with national and regional issues.

atif Jun 11, 2014 01:37am

do this person have left single percent of conscience?

independentthinker Jun 11, 2014 01:50am

Our Information Minister proved one thing - that our politicians are good at at least one thing - blame game! Instead of taking responsibility, he is quick to blame the federal government. While I am no fan of Nawaz Sharif, I think all government officials need to take the responsibility and ensure they are prepared for the future. Blaming someone else will not protect us in the future!

sadiq ahmad Jun 11, 2014 01:39pm

dear all it was an attack on federal facility for which mr bean and tend shrif are responsible. moreover it was an episode n the drama peace talks produced and directed by tend sharif.

muhibbewatan Jun 12, 2014 01:10am

Seems like the "clean-up" operation in the notorious areas of Karachi was left unfinished because the suspected terrorists are believed to have come from those very areas. How pathetic!
