SHEIKHUPURA, July 12: The 205th annual Urs of Pir Waris Shah, the creator of Heer, will begin here from July 23.

There will be a local holiday on July 24.

This was decided at a meeting held here on Saturday to finalize the programmes for the Urs. It was presided over by DCO Ayub Qazi.

The District Nazim will inaugurate the three-day proceedings on July 23 by performing the ghusal ceremony.

The Punjab minister for culture will place a chadar on the shrine on July 24 and will inaugurate the traditional sports events to be held on the occasion.

Special programmes on July 25 include Heer recitation contest, a Punjabi mushaira and a music programme arranged by the district and Punjab governments.—APP
