ISLAMABAD, July 11: Taking serious cognizance of Internet and Telecom service failure on July 7, the PTCL management has suspended four senior officers on the basis of preliminary inquiry report.

According to a PTCL press release issued here on Friday, the company has also initiated disciplinary action against two directors responsible for the services failure.

The company took serious note of the failure of internet services due to which PTCL customers were denied internet access.

Strict disciplinary action has been initiated against director satellite for negligence in maintenance of the Earth Station under his control. While two other officials posted at Satellite station Dehmandro, Karachi, have been suspended.

The two officials — divisional engineer and assistant divisional engineer — were responsible for maintenance of satellite antenna.

Similar action has also been taken against the staff responsible for maintenance of SMW-3 land cable route at Karachi. Disciplinary action has been initiated against the divisional engineer concerned, while services of A.E. external cable and engineering supervisor have been suspended with immediate effect.

It may be mentioned that a high-level inquiry had been ordered to probe all aspects of the incident, and based on its outcome, further actions are also anticipated, the press release said.

Meanwhile, two more PTCL officials have been laid off for negligence in customer care.

The two officers — manager corporate customer under GM LTR South Lahore and deputy director (Tariff) PTCL Headquarters, Islamabad — have been found negligent in providing proper customer care, the press release said.
