ISLAMABAD, July 9: President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah khan Jamli on Wednesday discussed the situation arising out of the attack on Pakistani embassy in Kabul and the proposed framework of the government-opposition talks on the Legal Framework Order, officials told Dawn.

Both the leaders met for the second time in the past three days.

An official handout, issued after the conclusion of the meeting, stated that the president and the prime minister “reviewed the regional and international situation.”

Officials, contacted by this correspondent, said that the president had briefed the prime minister on the background, which had led to the attack on Pakistan’s embassy in Kabul, adding that parameters within which the prime minister was authorized to resolve the LFO issue were also discussed during the one-to-one meeting.

The two are also said to

have discussed the evidence gathered by the law enforcement agencies on the Quetta tragedy regarding the identification of culprits involved in the incident.

Sources said that the prime minister also apprised the president about his offer to the opposition parties, which had resulted in the withdrawal of the no-trust resolution against the deputy speaker on Monday.

Anti-Pakistan demonstrations continued in Afghanistan on Wednesday, with some 300 people protesting Pakistan’s alleged incursions into their country in the city of Mehtarlam, dpa said quoting AIP.

The head of the local tribal council, Sayed Malang, led the demonstration in the capital city of Laghman province, AIP said.

“We want Pakistani forces to leave our territory,” Malang was quoted by the private news agency as telling the demonstrators.

Pakistan closed its embassy in Kabul on Tuesday after a mob attacked and damaged it.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai condemned the attackers as “enemies of Afghanistan” who wanted to worsen relations with Pakistan.

He called President Musharraf on the telephone and apologized for the attack.
