MIRPURKHAS: Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Mirpurkhas chairman Shafique Ahmed Khan on Saturday resigned from his office at a time when he was supposed to appear before a committee constituted on the orders of the chief minister to investigate allegations of massive corruption against him and his favourite officials.
The committee was formed three weeks ago by the Mirpurkhas commissioner on the orders of the Sindh chief minister in the wake of a protest campaign led by the All Pakistan Clerks Association (Apca) against corruption.
Apca claims having evidence of the board chairman’s involvement in corruption, misuse of powers and gross irregularities.
The committee initiated the inquiry though a little later than the scheduled date.
The committee secretary Usman Mehsud issued notices to the board chairman and asked him to provide all relevant record to the committee and directed Apca leaders to submit documentary evidence of corruption and irregularities in the board. But the chairman, sources said, avoided appearing in the committee by giving different excuses which annoyed the committee convener. Apca office-bearers submitted record of the alleged corruption and irregularities, said the sources.
Shafique Ahmed Khan’s extended term was to end on June 10 but he resigned before completing the contract.
