PRICES are increasing rapidly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and there’s no policy to check this. Hence, profiteers are fleecing the customers. The administration rarely issues revised price lists.... Shopkeepers, bakers and milk sellers are charging rates as they want to and the quality is not maintained. Everyone can see that the market is full of ... adulterated food items but the consumers have no other option.... Every item is contaminated and even then they are sold at exorbitant prices.

...Milk sellers are selling two types of milk — pure, and mixed with water ... in connivance with the relevant officials. [Price] magistrates rarely fulfil their responsibilities and send the lower staff to the market for checking. ... Utility stores are also not playing their role effectively ... however, there is some sort of subsidy for specific items during Ramazan, but nobody bothers to check the quality.
