ISLAMABAD, July 7: Pakistan has taken adequate measures to prevent nuclear proliferation and the country’s custodial control was strong enough to deter its assets ever falling into wrong hands, President Pervez Musharraf said on Monday.

He was speaking at the Special session of the 28th International Nathiagali Summer College on Physics and Contemporary Needs, jointly organized by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission and the Quaid-i-Azam University’s National Centre for Physics.

“Pakistan will never proliferate,” the president reassured.

President Musharraf reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire for peace in South Asia through peaceful resolution of all disputes, including the Kashmir issue.

Stressing the need for creating a no-win situation for Pakistan and India, the president called for creating a balance in both conventional and non-conventional means of power.

The president said that Pakistan was following the doctrine of minimum defensive deterrence, adding that the country was not involved in an arms race but would maintain such a deterrence at all levels.

Supporting to enhance the country’s reliance on nuclear energy, the president said that it was vital as the country had mastered the nuclear technology.
