ISLAMABAD, July 7: Chinese has gifted 10 sets of special equipment for Sars detection to Pakistan, a foreign office statement says.

The Chinese ambassador to Pakistan, Zhang Chungxiang, handed over the equipment to the foreign ministry officials here on Monday.

Although Sars epidemic has abated, the equipment will be used along the Pakistan-China border at Sost, upper Hunza, in Northern Areas, as a Sars prevention measure.

The border was opened for trade and tourism on July 1 after two months delay.

The seasonal border remains closed from November 1 to April 30 due to harsh weather. But this year the border could not be opened until July 1 due to outbreak of Sars epidemic in Southern and eastern China.

Pakistan has thanked the Chinese government for this gift, which is a further reflection of the abiding friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
