MUZAFFARABAD, July 7: AJK Prime Minister Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan on Monday ruled out a change of government in Azad Kashmir.
“Those who are dreaming of a change in Azad Kashmir through rumours and disinformation will be disappointed,” he said in a statement issued on his return from Islamabad.
He was alluding to rumours rife in Azad Kashmir for the past couple of days that the powers that be were contemplating brining about a change in the territory.
“There is a strong government in AJK, which has stabilized the system and provided a corruption free administration over the past two years despite all odds,” the premier said.
He said nothing particular had been pointed out that could establish the government’s involvement in corruption, violation of merit or any other step against the spirit of justice.
“Contrary to the practice of the People’s Party government, we tried our best to plug all outlets of corruption and that might be one of the reasons of propaganda against us,” he alleged.
He claimed that he had utilized the official funds as a national trust and uniformly treated every area of the state. “Doing this in a society where everyone employs pressure tactics is a very difficult task but nevertheless we did it,” he said.
He invited people to point out flaws, if any, in the government and vowed to take action in this regard.
In an apparent reference to the AJK president and the leader of the opposition, he said the government had no remedy for those who were “informing it through newspapers that corruption was being committed.”
“Those who manoeuvre publication of stories about change in AJK and then cheer up may rest assured that the government will complete its five years in office,” he said.
If the governments could be changed through press statements then no government would have seen a second day in office, he remarked.
He said he held the opposition in high esteem and was ready to address its genuine complaints. “But, everyone should bear in mind that Azad Kashmir is a sensitive region and rumours and disinformation here cannot be tolerated,” he said.
