ISLAMABAD, July 7: The Pakistan Muslim League (N) has expressed its concern over the supply of F-16s and Awacs aircraft as well as anti-missile system to India from Israel and the US.

The members of the parliamentary party of the PML-N in a meeting here on Monday passed a resolution which stated that with the supply of these aircraft and missile system India would be able to watch Pakistan’s defence activities deep inside the country.

The participants of the meeting, presided over by acting PML-N president and parliamentary leader Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, feared that Gen Musharraf’s “inability to acquire F-16 aircraft and his commitment to freeze Pakistan’s nuclear programme would intensify threats to the nation’s security.”

Through the resolution, the party deplored that Gen Musharraf not only “failed in securing immediate and concrete economic and defence assistance” from President Bush at Camp David, but also made “commitments that would weaken Pakistan’s defence.”

The resolution warned that since Gen Musharraf was not the chief executive of the country, he was not “authorized to make such commitments” and the nation would never endorse them. It said Gen Musharraf should be “reasonable,” and must realize why President Bush readily accepted the demands of Indian Deputy Prime Minister L. K. Advani, but turned down the requests of the Pakistani general.

It said Gen Musharraf’s “failure” has hurt the “prestige and reputation” of Pakistan armed forces, for which he alone will be responsible.
