QUETTA, July 6: The government has constituted an inquiry committee, headed by an army major general, to investigate the Imambargah bombing and firing incident.

Balochistan Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Abdul Qadir informed religious scholars, tribal elders, leaders of political parties and members of the provincial assembly, while presiding over a meeting here on Sunday.

Chief Minister Jam Mir Mohammad Yusuf, Interior Minister Sardar Sanaullah Zehri, Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal’s provincial chief Maulana Mohammad Khan Sherani also attended the meeting.

Reiterating the government’s resolve to take strict action against the people involved in the Quetta incident, he said that anyone found to be involved in killing innocent people would not be spared.

Lt Gen (Retd) Abdul Qadir termed the incident an act of terrorism, saying that the problem of sectarianism did not exist in Balochistan.

He said that the incident was aimed against the entire Ummah instead of targeting a particular sect, adding that the government was making efforts to apprehend the people behind the incident.

Stressing the need for extraordinary vigilance, Lt Gen (Retd) Qadir urged the people in general and religious scholars in particular to help the government maintaining peace and identify the culprits involved in the incident, adding that the government was considering to offer a reward providing information leading to the arrest of the culprits.

Referring to the people injured in the attack on imambargah, he said that the Combined Military Hospital in Quetta was providing best possible medical care but if anyone needed further treatment the government would be forthcoming in this regard.

Maulana Mohammad Sherani, senior minister Maulana Abdul Wasay, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed Shoradi, Maulana Abdul Rashid Hazarvi, Alama Yaqoob Tawasali, Alama Mehdi Najfi, Sardar Sadat Ali Hazara, Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo, Dr Abdul Malik, Mrs Rubina Irfan, Ms Rahila Durrani, Mrs Perveen Magsi and others condemned the June 8 and July 4 incidents.
