PBSA yet to finalize venue

KARACHI, July 5: Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) is yet to finalize the venue of 7th Red and White Cup National Snooker Championship which opens from July 18.

Secretary of PBSA Aspi Mavalwala when contacted on Saturday said that they were planning to stage at Muslim Gymkhana Billiards hall but they got only two international level Riley tables.

He said all the participating 32 cueists featuring in the championship wanted that all the four table which are to be used in championship should be Riley so, PBSA discarded Muslim Gymkhana as a venue.

PBSA secretary said now they got three more options to hold the competition either at Snooker Zone Shaheed-i-Millat Road, Pearl-II Clifton or newly raised club Snooker Area in Gizri.

He said if third venue come into option then the event has to put off for a week as Snooker Area is yet to establish fully.

The event is an important one because at the end of event two-member Pakistan squad for the World championship being held in China in October/November will be finalized.

He said Pakistan’s leading cueist Farhan Mirza, who missed the Style National ranking championship will be taking part in the event.

However, he said he had no knowledge whether Farhan was in Pakistan or Sweden. Farhan married to a Muslim citizen of Sweden some four years ago.

He said a prize money of Rs 187,000 will at stake in the championship. Winner of the event will be collecting Rs 60,000 and runner-up Rs 35,000.—APP
