ISLAMABAD, July 5: Government officials and political leaders have condemned the Quetta Imambargah attack in which 44 people were killed on Friday.

Central MMA leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Saturday demanded constitution of a high-level commission to investigate the Quetta incident.

He said those responsible should be dealt with in accordance with law. He also prayed for the early recovery of the injured.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed sympathy with the bereaved families and the injured.

“We have contacted Allama Sajid Naqvi and condoled with him over the incident. We also condoled with the Hazara tribe and the bereaved families,” he said.

PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif and president Shahbaz Sharif have expressed shock and grief at the loss of valuable lives in the terrorist attack.

In joint message on Saturday, they expressed sympathy with the victims’ families and said the incident was a proof of the failure of Gen Pervez Musharraf in stemming terrorism.

Creating rifts and disunity through terrorist acts was a matter of grave concern, they added.

Senator Wasim Sajjad has expressed his grief over the tragic loss of lives in the attack in Quetta. He said the loss of life and injuries to a number of innocent people was a great tragedy. He condemned this act of terrorism and declared that saboteurs were acting against the solidarity of Pakistan.

The federal health minister, Mohammad Nasir Khan, said the government would provide all necessary assistance to the Quetta incident victims.

He stated this while talking to the governor and the chief minister of Balochistan on Saturday.

State Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sports Rais Munir Ahmed said certain elements, who had no love for Pakistan, were trying to create a law and order situation. He said no Muslim could commit such a horrendous terrorist act.

Defence Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal said taking lives of innocent people was against humanity and Islam, therefore, such actions should be condemned by everyone.

Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Sardar Yar Mohammad Rind expressed his deep sorrow and grief over the tragic loss of lives in the Imambargah attack. He said the government would make all out efforts to arrest the culprits.—Agencies

OUR STAFF REPORTER ADDS: The Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday condemned the Quetta massacre and demanded of the government to hold a judicial inquiry into the incident and announce compensation for the victims’ families.

The central information secretary of PTI, Akbar S. Babar, in a statement, said the Quetta massacre had sent shockwaves across the country. This act of terror was in continuation to the recent terrorist incidents in Balochistan and the blowing up of gas pipelines, he said.

President of Qaumi Jamhoori Party Air Marshal Asghar Khan (retired) and party’s central vice-president Syed Nusrat Ali Shah said the repeated terrorist attacks in Quetta were part of a conspiracy to spread religious disharmony and sectarian violence in the country.

Tehrik Nifaz-i-Fiqh-i-Jafariya (TNFJ) Syed Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi has condemned the heavy loss of life in the imambargah attack.

In a statement from the TNFJ headquarters, he said this incident was an open act of terrorism. He said it was a heinous conspiracy to defame and destabilize Islam and Pakistan.

Agha Moosavi said the international colonial powers were behind the incidents of terrorism to exert pressure on the Islamic world and Pakistan by pitching one sect against the other and one brother against the other.
