LAHORE: The Institute for Peace and Secular Studies and other civil society organisations held a candle-lit vigil to commemorate the 83rd death anniversary of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru.

People from different walks of life participated in the event. They stressed renaming Shadman Chowk as Bhagat Singh Chowk.

The participants expressed their concern at the rise of religious extremism in the country and how the entire provincial metropolis was inundated by Jamaatud Dawa flags instead of the national flags on the Pakistan Day.

A press release issued by the IPSS alleged that a group of religious extremists arrived at Shadman Chowk and threatened the participants.

It demanded that the government take action against extremists and immediately pass a bill to rename the Chowk.

The protesters also demanded that the state should stop sympathising with religious extremist groups and must listen to peaceful citizens of the country.
