ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Thursday inaugurated federal capital’s first polo ground.

Islamabad Club Polo Ground has been developed by an international firm.

Speaking on the occasion, the president said: “We have world’s highest polo ground, Shandur and Pakistan has produced some of the finest polo players like Podger Effendi, Vicky Effendi and Hissam Ali Hyder.”

The ceremony was attended by diplomats, polo players and people from all walks of life.

The participants of the ceremony also enjoyed a friendly inaugural match.

The president congratulated the winners of the match and said: “Winning or losing does not matter; the match should be played with the spirit of camaraderie and competition, and both teams deserve appreciation.”

He gave away trophies and announced that every year on March 23 a polo tournament would be held on this ground. — A Reporter
