ISLAMABAD, July 1: Lt Gen Tauqir Zia, head of the Pakistan Cricket Board, promised more grounds to Islamabad if local cricketing disputes were resolved.
Speaking at the Diamond Cricket Ground where he unveiled a plaque to mark the upgradation work there under PCB’s Vision 2005 programme, he urged the officials to work for the good of cricket.
“I wanted to lay a web of grounds in Islamabad but I am fed up of dealing with disputes of the association every other day,” he said candidly. But he added that he certainly would to do more for Islamabad.
The Diamond Ground is being upgraded at a cost of Rs 2500,000 by the PCB and once completed it will be the first ground to be run by a cricket club.
Also present on the occasion were the chief executive of PCB, Ramiz Raja, chairman of selectors Aamir Sohail, president of Islamabad Cricket Association Ishaq Bhatti and other officials.
Later, the general gave away prizes to the winners of the ICA-PTV Cricket League and the champion Islamabad squad that won the Cornelius Trophy.
