RAWALPINDI, July 1: The unseating of a Muttahida Majlis-i- Amal MNA is a move of the ruling party to pressurize the NWFP government.

This was stated by the MMA MNA Mian Aslam while speaking at a ‘meet the press’ programme at the Rawalpindi Press Club on Tuesday.

The MNA said the government had been using different tactics to press the MMA for a compromise on its principles. But, the MMA will never backtrack from its stand on the LFO and continue its struggle to restore the supremacy of Parliament, he added.

He defended the policies of the provincial government and said the MMA government would complete its tenure.

“Since the creation of the country, true parliamentary democracy could not be established due to hurdles put by the vested interests,” he said. Mian Aslam said water shortage and lack of residential facilities were some of the major problems faced by the residents of Islamabad and other adjoining rural areas.

Other problems include unemployment, lack of educational facilities, price-hike and social gap between different sectors, he added. The MMA leader said he had discussed these issues with all the departments concerned like the CDA, secretaries of different ministries, besides raising the issue in the National Assembly.

He said the government would establish 372 model colleges in the capital to solve problems in the education sector.

About water shortage, he said water samples were being collected from various areas to test these for human consumption.

He also asked the government to construct more residential flats for the government employees.

Mian Aslam criticized the government for introducing anti- workers policies, particularly the Special Power Ordinance-2000, according to which any employee could be sacked by his boss after concocting any excuse.
