GUJRANWALA, July 1: A man accused of killing PPP city president Chaudhry Khalid Humayun was arrested by the Gujranwala police in Karachi on Tuesday.

Mohammad Shafiq, nominated as the main accused in the FIR, had gone into hiding in Karachi. Acting on a tip-off, the district police constituted a team that reached Karachi and contacted the Baghdadi police for his arrest.

Four of those accused of involvement in the murder, including two brothers, had already been arrested by the Sabzi Mandi police and were being tried by an anti-terrorism court at district jail.

PROBE AGAINST POLICE: The district and sessions judge has ordered a departmental inquiry against three police officials on charges of detaining a man illegally.

The Satellite Town SHO got a case registered against SI Hamid Ullah, a Moharar and a police constable for detaining the trader, Sajjad.

A bailiff of the judge had raided the Satellite Town police station, retrieved the victim from the station mosque and produced him in the court.
