HYDERABAD, July 1: Activists of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz group) women wing, led by the city president, Raeesa Rehman, here on Tuesday observed a token hunger strike outside the press club to protest over the “excesses” against the family of the party president, Mian Shahbaz Sharif.

They raised slogans against President Pervez Musharraf.

Talking to newsmen, Raeesa Rehman said that the government should be ashamed of its action against the Sharif family.

She said that no one had the right to deport the family of Mr Sharif or deprive them of their inherent right of citizenship.

She warned that in the long run, the rulers would have to pay for what they were doing today.

PML leader and former Sindh governor, Mamnoon Hussain, visited the hunger strikers’ camp and persuaded the women wing workers to call off the hunger strike.

SLA: The Sindhi Language Authority (SLA) has announced that Sindhi classes, scheduled to be held from July 1 in Karachi and Hyderabad, has been postponed till July 14.

In a statement issued here on Monday, a spokesman for the SLA said this decision was taken to enable more students to take admissions in the Sindhi learning programme.
