JALALABAD, June 30: Several rockets were fired into the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad after dawn on Monday, causing some damage but no casualties, witnesses said.

One of the rockets landed near an office of the UN Children’ Fund (Unicef) in the city centre, they said.

One ripped through the roof of a house nearby, one landed outside a military base and another failed to explode.

There was no claim of responsibility for the attack and security officials were not immediately available for comment.

A Unicef official said he did not think the agency was the target.

“It wasn’t our office that was affected,” he said. “It was a military compound in the same vicinity.” He said he had received no reports of casualties.—Reuters
