Wapda clinch junior title

ISLAMABAD, June 28: Wapda edged out defending champions Pakistan Railways by five points to clinch their maiden title in the 12th Junior National Weightlifting Championship at Pakistan Sports Complex on Saturday.

Wapda collected 60 points from five gold and one silver medals while the 11th edition’s champions, Pakistan Railways, finished with 55 points from two gold and five silver medals in the two-day championship with four weight categories contested on each day.

Punjab garnered 38 points from seven bronze medals. Balochistan had 29 points from one gold and one bronze medal while Police ended up with 16 points. Pakistan Army won one silver medal.

Wapda had grabbed gold medals in the weight categories of 56, 62 and 69 kilograms on the opening day and on Saturday their gold medallists were: Shakeel Butt (85 kg) and Ali Aslam (94 kg).

The other two weight categories scheduled for the day were:105 and over 105 kg and the the gold medals went to Alam Din of Balochistan and Wasif Hanif Butt of Pakistan Railways.
