KARACHI: Four suspected gangsters were shot dead in different parts of Lyari on Monday as officials said that the ongoing gang warfare among rival groups intensified following the murder of a close relative of the late Abdul Rahman Baloch alias Rehman Dakait.

The Chakiwara police said that two young men were found shot dead in the Rangiwara area while in a separate incident 28-year-old Tasleem Bibi was shot at and wounded when suspected gangsters resorted to firing.

The bodies were taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) where their identity could not be ascertained immediately.

In the Baghdadi area, a young man was found shot dead on Ahmed Shah Bukhari Road. The body was taken to the CHK where he was identified as Allah Bux, 30.

Baghdadi SHO Aslam Dahiri claimed that the deceased was a member of the Comrade Sheraz gang and might have been murdered by the rival Noor Mohammed, alias Baba Ladla, gang.

In the third incident, a young man was shot dead in the Kalakot area. The police said 35-year-old Jibran was found in a critical condition in Gul Mohammed Lane. He was taken to the CHK where he succumbed to injuries.

The police claimed that the deceased was a gangster.

“All the four deceased were gangsters,” claimed Lyari SP Shahnawaz. He said the gang warfare had been intensified in parts of Lyari following the murder of Kamran Baloch, brother-in-law of Rehman, alias Rehman Dakait, on Sunday.

He said following these murders, the LEAs conducted targeted action in various areas and detained some suspects.

MQM activist gunned down

A worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement on Monday night was shot dead outside a hospital where he went to see his ailing mother in Federal B Area, Block-16.

According to Yusuf Plaza SHO Azhar Mehmood, armed motorcyclists fired at Afroz Riazul Haq, 30, as he came out of the Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases after meeting his ailing mother. He was taken to a private hospital where doctors pronounced him dead, the police said.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The victim was a worker of the MQM in Orangi Town and his murder appeared to be an act of targeted killing, the police said.

Policeman killed

A sub-inspector posted in the police forensic laboratory was shot dead in New Karachi on Monday evening in what officials believed was a robbery attempt.

New Karachi SHO Chaudhry Afzal said 50-year-old sub-inspector Aftab Qayum drew Rs2,000 from an automated teller machine at the Nagan Chowrangi and was on his way home on a motorcycle when two suspected robbers intercepted him. When the policeman put up resistance, the robbers fire at him and fled.

The wounded officer was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

‘Sectarian attack’

A young man was shot dead in a suspected targeted attack in Incholi on Monday, police said. Samanabad SHO Shaukat Raza said that Shahab Haider, 40, was sitting at his ‘Madina pan shop’ in Incholi when two suspects riding motorcycles pulled up there, opened fire on him and sped away.

The wounded was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The victim received seven bullet wounds on different parts of his body, said the additional police surgeon.

The SHO said it appeared to be a sectarian killing.

Young man found shot dead

A young man was shot dead in the Teen Hatti area on Monday, the Supermarket police said.

They added that 22-year-old Zohaib Shahid was found shot dead in a storm drain and his motorcycle near the drain.

The police believed that he had been gunned down late Sunday night and his body was thrown into the drain. He sustained a single bullet wound in the chest.

Supermarket SHO Anzar Alam said the deceased, a resident of Manzoor Colony, was a drug addict.
