KARACHI, June 27: A girl Safia, 13, died when she fell into an open manhole in Korangi No 2.

Police said the girl was disembarking from the bus when she fell into the open manhole.

The body of the girl, who was a student of class VI, was recovered after three hours by the fire-brigade officials.

A statment issued by the Korangi Town municipal administration condemned the Water and Sewerage Board for its failure to cover the manhole.

SMUGGLING BID FOILED: An attempt to smuggle over nine tons of betelnut worth millions of rupees was foiled by Collectorate of Appraisement, adds APP.

Appraisement collectorate sources said on Friday the betelnut was being smuggled through a consignment imported from Dubai.

The appraisement intelligence branch conducted complete examination of a container on suspicion and found over nine tons of betelnut concealed behind cartons.

The AIB has taken the container into custody and further investigation is under way.
