KARACHI, June 23: Residents of the Usmania Mohajir Colony on Monday staged a protest demonstration to voice their anger over non-availability of water in their locality.
The protesters, who had assembled on the Jamshed Road, near Central Jail, chanted slogans against the officials of the city government’s water and sanitation department and their locality’s union council Nazim.
The demonstrators were holding placards and banners, while they pelted stones on passing vehicles, as a result of which the vehicular traffic remained disrupted for about half-an-hour.
They deplored that although their locality had been deprived of water for the last 11 days, the officials of the Water and Sanitation department had paid no heed to the problem, despite a number of complaints lodged with them.
They demanded of the City Nazim and the senior officials of water department to direct the concerned officials to immediately restore the supply to their locality.
OVERFLOW: Filthy water gushing out from some choked gutters often remains stagnant at two streets, situated behind the Medicare Hospital, Shaheed-i-Millat Road.
The dirty water, which often remained accumulated on the streets was not only causing inconvenience to the people residing in the locality, but was also giving the place a filthy look. The faithful, visiting the nearby Masjid-e-Ali, particularly for Isha and Fajr prayers, were the worst sufferers, the residents complained.
