RAWALPINDI, June 20: A suspected thief attempted suicide in custody of City police on Wednesday night, sources said on Thursday.

Mohammad Alam who was in police custody in connection with a theft case went into the toilet in the lock up where he attempted suicide by slitting his belly with a broken saucer last night, the sources said.

The incident came to light when some other accused present in the same lock up saw blood coming out of the toilet and informed the police guard. The injured was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital where he is said to be in critical condition.

Meanwhile, an unidentified robber snatched cash from a pedestrian near Fawara Chowk on Thursday night and escaped, police said.

Mohammad Bakthawar, a resident of Gilgit told the Gunjmandi police that he was on his way to a local hotel, when an unidentified person intercepted him and snatched a bag containing Rs50,000 from him.
