KARACHI, June 18: Seven ships carrying steel coils, containers, general cargo and sugar for Afghanistan are expected to arrive at the outer anchorage on Thursday, according to KPT sources.
Berthing activity at the wharves was modest where four ships, APL Portugal, Sinar Bangka, to unload and load containers, Sena Deniz, to offload general cargo and Sorena to offload crude oil were berthed after the departure of five.
The departing ships, were led by Global Progress, Kota Waruna, Gao He, Tempere and Andreea, while APL Portugal, Stolt Lily, Hyundai Future and Sorena are due to sail out on Thursday.
Cargo handling activity at the wharves was maintained on the higher owing to larger handling of the liquid tonnage, rising to 90,857 tons. The export tonnage of 18,156 tons comprised 16,556 tons of general commodities and 1,600 tons of molasses, while import cargo rose to 72,701 tons including 58,420 tons of oils.
The following ships are due on Thursday: Kota Indah, Mar Challenger, Bunga Mastiga, Sima Bahar, with container, Faruke, with general cargo, Atlantic Zues, with steel coils and Mercs Kandy, with 3,850 tons of sugar for Afghanistan.
KARACHI, June 18: Three ships carrying containers and edible oil got berths at Marginal Wharf and Qasim International Container Terminal during the last 24 hours, says a PQA press release on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, another ship carrying carbon oil also arrived at the outer anchorage. Berth occupancy remained on the higher side as seven ships were busy in loading/offloading wheat, containers, edible oil, containers, furnace oil and chemicals.
Cargo handling activity was brisk as total tonnage rose to 86,424 tons comprising 66,194 tons of import cargo and 20,230 tons of export tonnage was handled.
Four ships, Carmen, Qem Star, Fare Mare and Safmarine Vinson were expected to leave the port on Wednesday, while New Setokaze and Orion Princess were awaiting berths at the outer anchorage.
Two ships, London and Lister were due to arrive at the port, while Francisca Schulte is due on Thursday.
