HYDERABAD, Oct 11: Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Hyderabad, has seized the record of Nasarpur police station after registration of two separate cases against SHO, an ASI and two constables of the police station.

The SHO made fake entries in the station diary against the civil judge, Asif Soomro and ACE officials.

The ACE team led by DSP Malik Mulazim Hussain seized the diary and other documents of the police station.

The raid at the police station was conducted after a plan by the ACE officials to arrest SHO Nasarpur police station, Habibullah Chand, ASI Aijaz Deeshak and two police constables was foiled by the police officials.

The plan was made on the complaint of Ashraf, transporter of Hala Naka. He had lodged a case with ACE officials alleging that SHO Nasarpur police station had kept him in wrongful detention for three days and he was released after the SHO was paid bribe.

Ashraf was picked up by the Nasarpur police following theft of scrap of a costly excavator that was lying at the watercourse-II in the jurisdiction of Nasarpur police station.

The machine was the property of lower Sindh mechanical division, Jamshoro, of Irrigation Department.

One Rasheed had contacted Ashraf for transporting the machine to Lahore for which two trucks (no 2762- JG and 1371-E) were obtained.

Ashraf claimed that Rasheed showed him a letter of Irrigation Department pertaining to the transportation of machine to Lahore.

After the excavator was sent to Lahore, an investigation was initiated by the Irrigation Department after it learnt that the costly machine used for desilting and digging out water channels had been stolen.

The case was lodged against Irrigation Department watchman Gul Mohammad.

Nasarpur police picked up Ashraf as he was alleged to have facilitated the transportation of stolen government property.

He told police that what he had done was legal as he was shown the concerned documents.

He remained wrongfully detained at the Nasarpur police station for three days, he told the ACE officials in his FIR.

Ashraf said that DSP Irshad Rajput visited the police station and told the SHO in his presence to strike a deal with him.

The SHO demanded Rs50,000 from Ashraf saying out of the amount Rs30,000 would be paid to the DSP, it was alleged.

Ashraf agreed to pay Rs22,000 in instalments. He paid Rs11,000 in presence of two witnesses and also helped police in finding out the Lahore area where the machinery was shifted in a godown.

The complainant informed that he with the team of Irrigation Department and Nasarpur police officials reached Allah Malik godown No-204 where the machinery was delivered.

Its owner Riaz Khan was picked up by the police and was allegedly released following payment of Rs80,000 to the SHO.

The Nasarpur police also picked up one Arshad Hussain Shah who also deals in the business of machinery in Karachi but apparently had no connection with the stolen excavator.

Arshad was brought from Karachi by air to Lahore by Riaz Khan. He was kept in his godown and finally handed over to the Nasarpur police.

He was brought to the Nasarpur police station on September 18 and kept in wrongful detention till he was falsely implicated in the excavator theft case.

Following the arrest of Arshad, the SHO Nasarpur police Habibullah Chand asked Ashraf to pay remaining Rs11,000 as promised by him.

Ashraf told him that as he had extended cooperation and had no connection in the affair, he should be pardoned since he was not able to pay the amount but the SHO remained adamant.

In the meantime Ashraf informed the ACE and lodged a case.

On September 26, a trap was arranged by DSP Ali Asghar Qureshi.

The DSP, ACE sub-inspector Bashir Shah, civil judge Asif Soomro and some ACE constables reached the shop of Ashraf as the SHO was to receive the amount there but he did not turn up.

Again another trap was arranged on September 29 and the SHO, the ASI and two constables arrived at a hotel in a black car in civvies in the jurisdiction of Market police station to receive the amount.

Ashraf sat with them in the car and handed over the amount. The ACE team encircled the car but the ASI ordered the police constables to aim their guns on the civil judge and the ACE officials.

The SHO and ASI fled from the scene driving the car at a breakneck speed. A constable was injured.

However, The ACE officials seized a Kalashnikov and a walkie- talkie of Nasarpur police officials.

Another case of obstruction in official duty was lodged against the police officials.

The ACE officials told Dawn when ACE team visited Nasarpur police station they were informed that the diary and other record had been taken away by the SHO.

The SHO, the ASI and the constables were suspended by DIG police Hyderabad range after deputy director ACE Hyderabad took up the matter with him.

DSP Mulazim Hussain was said to have seized the diary and other papers of the Nasarpur police station.

Arshad Hussain Shah who was brought from Lahore on September 18 was shown arrested on September 30. His statement has been recorded by ACE official in jail.

The ACE officials claimed that the SHO had made fake entries in the police diary about the ACE officials and the civil judge.

Through these entries the ACE officials and the civil judge have been accused of asking for favour for Ashraf.

An ACE official said that the Nasarpur police had obtained permission from provincial Home Department for bringing Arshad to Hyderabad. He was still in Tando Allahyar jail.
