PESHAWAR, June 15: The city police sized a big haul of fake US dollars and Pakistani currency and arrested two Afghan refugees on Grand Trunk Road near general bus stand here on Saturday, said a police official.

Speaking at a press conference at Police Headquarters, Senior Superintendent of Police (investigation) Dr Sadiq Kamal said that the chief of the Capital City Police was tipped off about the smuggling of large quantity of fake US dollars and Pakistani currency from tribal area to Punjab province.

The Gulbahar police constituted a special team for vigilance around the general bus stand, which held two Afghans on suspicion. During the search, the police recovered 20,000 fake US dollars notes of 100 denomination and 2,493 Pakistani rupee notes of 1000 denomination, Dr Kamal said.

The accused Afghans included Rooh Ullah, son of Bismillah and Noor Ullah, son of Mohammad Anwar, residents of Zareenabad in Chamkani area.

“We are looking for the ringleader, who is still at large,” the SSP said.
