ISLAMABAD, June 15: The leaders of 10 political parties of Azad Kashmir on Saturday demanded resignation of AJK Prime Minister Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan for “breaching” the AJK constitution and “betraying” the liberation movement by proposing the division of Kashmir.

The demand was made at an All Parties Conference organized by the People’s Party AJK. The PPAJK, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, the Jamaat-i-Islami, the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Party, the Liberation League, the Liberation Front, the Freedom Movement, the Millat Party, the Democratic Freedom Party and the Jamiat-i-Ulema-i-Pakistan attended the conference.

“We are not against parleys, but without accepting Kashmir as a disputed territory, withdrawal of forces and fixing of a date for plebiscite, the dialogue will prove to be a futile exercise as it did in the past,” they said.

The leaders unanimously adopted a resolution urging AJK President Sardar Mohammad Anwar Khan to file a reference against the prime minister in the AJK Supreme Court for his removal from the office.

They asked the president to force Mr Hayat to resign or face legal proceedings for betraying the liberation movement.

The declaration issued by the APC stated that the Kashmir issue was a matter of the right to self-determination of more than 13 million people of Jammu and Kashmir, which could only be resolved by implementing the United Nations resolutions and holding a plebiscite in Kashmir.

It said the people and leadership of Kashmir would never compromise on anything less than the internationally-recognized right to self-determination.

The parties resolved that they would not accept any solution in contradiction with the UN resolutions, the AJK constitution and Kashmiris’ aspirations.

They termed the moves to make the Line of Control the permanent border, to give internal autonomy to the state or divide it, subversive to the ongoing liberation movement and stated that they will oppose any such proposal.

“The conference makes it clear that any solution imposed on Kashmiri people from outside will not be acceptable and could further aggravate the situation instead of making any headway for peace,” the resolution said.

The conference, through a resolution, condoled the deaths of former prime minister Meraj Khalid and former chairman of the Kashmir Liberation Cell, Tariq Nizami.
