KARACHI, June 8: A policeman died in an encounter with armed men in PECHS, early Sunday morning.

Police said that three armed bandits entered the house of a retired Pakistan Navy official in PECHS, block-2, and started collecting valuables after taking some of the inmates hostage at gunpoint.

A family member managed to call the police help line 15, soon after a police mobile’s of the Ferozabad police station reached the spot.

The police said that on hearing the sirens, the suspects tried to escape from the house.

A police official said that two police mobile’s reached in front of the house, while one mobile was sent to the back of the house, when the suspects were scaling down the back wall.

During the exchange of fire, ASI, Mushtaq Ali Khoso, 40, suffered an injury caused by a fire, in his chest. Dacoits escaped from the spot under the cover of firing.

The injured police official was rushed to the JPMC where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Mercantile Society, in collaboration with the Community Policing, has announced a compensation of Rs25,000 for the bereaved family.
