KARACHI, June 8: Over 80 acres of the Gutter Baghicha land has been encroached upon, and the encroachers have even built a boundary wall around it, says an NGO.

In a statement, the Karachi NGOs Alliance (KNA) urged the city government and other relevant departments to institute an inquiry into the matter, and retrieve the land.

The NGO claimed that a local influential, who is also an elected representative in the local bodies, was involved in land-grabbing.

The KNA said it had approached the higher-ups of the city government, but no steps have been taken. He apprehended that the city government officials might be hand in gloves with the encroachers.

It said that Gen Pervaiz Musharraf, had announced that a modern park would be developed on 428 acres of Gutter Baghicha land, but as no action is being taken against the encroachers, it proves that the city government was not interested in developing a park at the Gutter Baghicha.
