ISLAMABAD, Oct 11: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested two brother-in-laws of a former Capital Development Authority chairman in a corruption case on Thursday.

According to a NAB statement issued on Thursday Abdul Aziz Khan Niazi and Aitzaz Ahmad Khan Niazi, cousins and brother-in-laws of former CDA chairman Shafi Sehwani, were wanted in a corruption reference.

It said the accused acted as Mr Sehwani’s front men and accumulated assets worth Rs202 millions through corruption and corrupt practices.

Mr Sehwani is already facing five references in different accountability courts in Rawalpindi.

Investigations carried out by the NAB, revealed that Abdul Aziz Khan Niazi acquired a three-canal residential plot in a prime sector of Islamabad in addition to an industrial plot in the name of his brother Aitzaz Khan Niazi.

The total value of the two plots is more than Rs20 million. The accused invested over Rs9.6 million in different stock exchanges during October 1998 to October 1999.

He accumulated these assets despite the fact that he did not have any regular job or involved in any business activity.

Aitzaz Khan Niazi, the brother-in-law of Mr Sehwani, filed his income tax and wealth tax returns for the first time in 1997-98, after investigations were carried out into his source of income and properties. Both the accused have no ostensible source of income to justify ownership of these properties.
