GLASGOW (Scotland), June 7: All-rounder Shoaib Malik guided nervous Pakistan to a one-wicket victory over Scotland in their England tour opener at Hamilton Crescent on Saturday.
Shoaib struck an unbeaten 52 as Pakistan overhauled Scotland’s total of 169 by reaching 170 for nine in 47 overs after a familiar middle-order collapse left them reeling at 60 for four.
Earlier, Shoaib had also excelled with his off-spinners as he claimed three for 17 in 10 overs. Fast bowler Shabbir Ahmed also picked up three wickets, including the scalp of India vice-captain Rahul Dravid for a first-ball duck, for 41 runs.
Dravid was spectacularly caught at the wicket by Pakistan captain Rashid Latif who dived full length in front of the first slip.
Leg-spinner Danish Kaneria picked up two but went for 49 runs while Bilal Asad, in his first match in Pakistan colours, and Mohammad Hafeez shared the remaining two wickets.
Rashid, who put Scotland into bat after winning the toss, held five catches behind the stumps.
