KARACHI, June 7: Strike The Gold after two wins on the trot, should strike again, when the Summer Gymkhana Race Meeting gets under way at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Owned by M. Ashraf Kothari and trained by Manzoor Baran, the three-year-old chestnut from Strides By Strides out of Aie Chutti, has won three out of his last five starts, finishing second in one and amongst the also ran in his maiden appearance.

Ridden last week by M. Barani, Strike The Gold on tight reins, beat nearest rival Guarantee by three lengths. But this time Strike The Gold will to work up a sweat to complete a hat trick, with thoroughbred filly Shama, the blue roan Order Of The Day, and I’m The King, in the field of nine runners going over the five furlong sprint.

All in all eight events have been chalked up on the racing programme, all to be contested over the sprinting distance of five furlongs.

The first race begins at 1.00 p.m.

In the opener, the seven-year-old chestnut horse Super Boy, although carrying 9-1 on his back, should overcome the likes of Law Of Nature, Powerful Tarzan and Even Top to romp home to victory, although Lucky Love could also have a say in this race.

Mrs. Yasmin K. Khan’s thoroughbred five-year-old bay horse Dauntless, should provide the lady with another triumph, followed home by Mera Sulman, Bye Bye, Rukhsar and Royal Beauty in the second race.

The third event has a big field of 16 runners vying for the top honours and if all goes well, Edward Chou’s chestnut colt Yaqoob Choice finishing second in his last two outings should make amends and pass the winning post ahead of Afzaal Prince and Bank Manager, although burdened to carry 9-5 on his back. The fourth spot should go to Little Sunny.

Syed Ali Gohar Shah’s half bred filly Ceaser’s Palace from Flamming Arrow out of Singing Time if ticking, should be a sitter in the fourth race, although the chestnut horse Ustadon Ka Ustad and Sonia, will be going all out to prove us wrong.

Roberto Carlos Fan, has let down his band of supporters time and again, but with a good lad in the saddle on Sunday, the bay horse should register his maiden victory over here in the fifth event closely followed home by the grey horse Ever Shine and Nawab, who surprisingly finished off the board last Sunday, and was lucky not to be penalised by the Stewards.

But then again, Danger lies in the shadows in the form of the thoroughbred dark bay filly Don’t Panic and another thoroughbred bay horse Lovely Concept.

If any one of these two runners are tried on Sunday, I am afraid it will be curtains for Roberto Carlos Fan once again.

The sixth race should provide the racing fans with plenty of thrills with Rahat Sultan’s bay horse Khas ul Khas with three straight victories under his belt taking on Ali Faisal Farooq’s thoroughbred chestnut colt Burning Sky, going all out for his second win in a row, with Syed Ali Gohar Shah’s Royal Lancer joining the fray.

Although many may fancy Khas ul Khas to register his fourth winner on the trot, our column fancies Burning Sky, improving with every outing. Royal Lancer should pick up the third spot.

The last race on the afternoon’s programme should also provide plenty of spills and thrills. Of the nine runners vying for the spoils, Fire Of Desire, Donatello, Bold Commander and High Standard stand out in this field of nine runners.

High Standard although promoted up a Division but carrying only seven stones and eight pounds on his back has the weight advantage and with a good lad astride, should win this race from Donatello, closely followed home by Bold Commander and Fire Of Desire.
