RAWALPINDI, June 6: The public transporters of the twin cities have delayed their protest march on the capital scheduled to be held on Saturday.

The programme has been delayed for unknown reasons. It has been learnt that the administration did not allow the transporters to hold a march. The new date for the protest march has not yet been announced.

Earlier, the transporters unions had planned to march on the capital on the occasion of the budget session in protest against the franchise of inter-city routes.

It is pertinent to mention here that there have been excessive complaints against the public transport owners. “The drivers and conductors misbehave with the commuters, do not complete routes, and also make long stops on different points,” the people complained.

On the other hand, they praised the private bus service for its safe, timely and comfortable journey. However, there were also some complaints against the service like its high fares and overloading.

The commuters called upon the authorities concerned to allow other transport companies to operate their buses on the routes of the twin cities and end the monopoly of one company.
