LAHORE, June 6: Federal Shariat Court’s former judge Mian Mahboob Ahmad has said that the Madar-i-Millat had played important role during and after the Pakistan Movement for Pakistan.

He was speaking at a meeting held at the Islamia College for Women in connection with the Madar-i-Millat year celebrations. He said that during Pakistan Movement Fatima Jinnah had mobilized the Muslim women of the sub-continent besides looking after the Quaid-i-Azam and after Pakistan she had worked for democracy. Civil liberties and the rule of law by challenging the military dictator Ayub Khan in his presidential election.

He said that it was due to her selfless services for Pakistan that the nation had honoured her with the titles of ‘Khatoon-i-Pakistan’ and Madar-i-MIllat. He urged the students of the college to emulate Fatima Jinnah and serve their nation after completing their education.

For Punjab University vice-chancellor Dr Rafiq Ahmad said that Fatima Jinnah was a courageous and bold woman who had led the Muslim women during the Pakistan Movement. Begum Surrayya Khurshid said that a lot of research work on the life and achievements of Fatima Jinnah could be done as the writers had not so far given due attention to the work.

She appreciated the book authored by Shahid Rashid on the life and role of the Madar-i-Millat for the valuable information it contained on Fatima Jinnah. The author of the book Shahid Rashid, college principal Arifa Younus, Prof Parveen Khan and Pakistan Girl Guides secretary Miss Khurshid Niazi also spoke.
