OKARA, June 5: The District Headquarters Hospital’s emergency ward has the only doctor to treat patients, a survey conducted by this correspondent revealed on Wednesday.
Hundreds of patients visit the ward round-the-clock. The only available doctor can hardly do justice to his job. Sometimes doctors of the other units have to treat emergency patients. Overall, the patients have to face a great deal of difficulty.
Meanwhile, representatives of the Anjuman-i-Tajran and some social organizations have demanded the higher-ups that they should appoint at least two doctors and more paramedical staff for each eight-hour shift.
Besides, there is a shortage of furniture, wheel chairs, drip stands and even electric bulbs and tubelights at the emergency ward. Unavailability of medicines has been adding to the patients’ worries.
