No talks with Taliban, says MWM

KARACHI: Leader of relatively new Shia party Majlis-i-Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM) Allama Nasir Abbas said on Sunday that no talks should be held with the Taliban.
Speaking at a conference in Karachi's Nishtar Park, Abbas said the terrorists are free to move about and no action was being taken against them.
"There should be no talks with the Taliban...we will always support the oppressed," Abbas said.
The MWM leader said the ruling Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) was afraid of confronting the terrorists and of tackling them.
At the same occasion, MWM leader Amin Shahidi said engaging the Taliban in a dialogue would be unconstitutional.
"Having talks with the Taliban means having talks with those who reject the constitution of this country," Shahidi said.
He further stated that the 180 million people of Pakistan were being deceived in the name of dialogue.
Speaking about the security situation in the month of Muharram, Shahidi said there have always been dangers.
He said attempts to stifle the ulema and threats to stop processions during Muharram are being received by them.
Sectarian tensions have plagued Pakistan substantially during the past few years with an escalation in attacks against the country's Shia Muslim community.

Allama Nasir Abbas please enlighten us with how you would deal with the Taliban?..
Pakistan has been fighting the Taliban for ten years now with no end to the fighting in sight. Even the UK and US can ill afford to keep fighting the Taliban because wars cost lots of money and lots of lives so why should Pakistan?

Absolutely correct, there should be no dialogues with the Taliban's. Moreover, they should not be acknowledged by the Pakistani authorities. They have brought shame and have caused enough damage to our country.

There are slim chances of any meaningful outcome of the possible talks with Talibans in next few weeks because of the inflexible attitude of Talibans. But it is good to give peace a chance.

Without intending any dis-respect, this is such an immature statement at only a week away from Muharram, which unfortunately is such a sensitive period due to the activities of state enemies.
I am also against any dialogue, there cannot be one with the terrorists. But there is a way and time to speak out.

Its Pakistan's internal matter whether to talk with Taliban or not. But my opinion is, talks about "Talks with Taliban" has been going since ages, atleast a decade I have been hearing. So why it is not moving further?
Also Taliban who have been targeting Shia community. So if talks goes ahead with Taliban, safety for Shias, Sufis, Ahmedias, Hindus and Chritans must be part of the talk.

Answer lies in the question, if I ask you, what will you do if any of your neighbor comes to your home start telling you to do everything according to his Will as he is doing in his home and if you will not act accordingly he will shoot you. You give him valid arguments that you have your own way of living and you will not follow his commands but rather to listen your valid arguments he starts killing your family members one by one. Do you further dialogue with him or tell your guard to shoot him back & close the matter then & there. So, Brother !! perpetrators (Talibans) are killing our family members one by one & we all are keeping our guards(Army) confused and are not ordering them to wipeout them to save the rest of us.

In fact Pakistan's elected government never fought with taliban whole heartedly as a one unit. For the last decade or so, the army has been fighting with taliban & sectarian organizations without the full political backing and support. So it has not been a real fight to eradicate taliban altogether from Pakistan. It has been a confused effort, otherwise taliban cannot withstand before regular & professional Pak army & state of Pakistan for so long.
Whoever, thinks that there could be any political solution with taliban, has no real understanding of taliban;s ideology & their motives. Time will prove that dialogue with taliban is a waste of time only, as they only speak and understand the language of gun.

Taliban can be wiped out completely if and only if Pakistan acted with courage and will. No US nor UK can achieve this. This can be accomplished only through and by Pakistan. It all depends on the determination of Pakistan. Now the real question is whether Pakistan has the will to act or not.
