PESHAWAR, June 1: The joint action committee (JAC) of teachers, students and doctors has rejected the Model University Ordinance and demanded an end to the contractual employment system in health and education sectors and recognition of Saidu and Gomal Medical Colleges by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.
Speaking at a reception arranged by the committee for newsmen, its NWFP chief Arbab Khan Afridi alleged that the government was behind the destruction of health and education sectors in the country.
The government, he said, followed dictates of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank with regard to health and education policies and had no sympathy with its people.
He demanded restoration of the four-tier promotion fomula for the employees in the health and education departments; an end to self-finance scheme in educational institutes; filling vacancies on permanent basis and establishment of a local women university.
Mr Arbab also demanded of the government to lift ban on student unions, so they could fight for the solution of their problems.
He also asked the government to end the autonomy granted to the teaching hospitals and terminate the institution-based practice at the state-run hospitals.
