Harvesters become redundant

Published December 13, 2001

GUJRANWALA, Dec 12: More than 75 imported harvesters have become redundant for want of spare parts.

The harvesters were given to farmers on soft term loans in 1998 by the agriculture department. But their spare parts are not available in local market and they have been rusting for the last one year.

The farmers who purchased these harvesters declined to return loan on the plea that their spare parts should be imported or they should be repaired by the department experts to avoid them further financial loss.

Some farmers told newsmen here on Wednesday that they had purchased the Japan imported harvesters when the department concerned assured them that they would be repaired free of cost by the experts for seven years.

But nobody bothered to contact them on their complaints for the last one year.
