LAHORE, Sept 12: The City District Government of Lahore has imposed a ban on the entry of sacrificial animals into city areas with Section 144 of the CrPC. Under the ban, the sale and purchase of sacrificial animals has been restricted to only officially-approved markets outside city areas, a CDGL spokesman said on Thursday.

He said the decision to ban sale/purchase of sacrificial animals had been imposed to maintain cleanliness and avoid waste pollution in the provincial metropolis.

“The CDGL has constituted 26 monitoring teams to launch a crackdown on those selling/purchasing animals in city areas. The town administrations have also been directed to auction impounded animals and send their owners to jail for violating the ban,” the official said.

He said the Shalimar Town administration impounded about 30 animals after a raid at a mini goat market in China Scheme. The team also sealed the market and initiated legal action against traders of animals.

CRCAKDOWN: All town administrations have been directed to launch a crackdown from Friday (today) on beggars at intersections/roads and residential areas of the city.

The Data Ganj Bakhsh Town administration and the Social Welfare Department will jointly launch the crackdown from Masjid-i-Shuhada on The Mall.

According to officials, the teams will send the captured women and child beggars to Darul Amaan and the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau, respectively.

The young and addict male beggars will be sent to jail after getting cases registered against them.

Meanwhile, the CDGL has appealed to the public to report to the nearest town or the police station about beggars.

DETECTION: A team comprising officials of the CDGL, SNGPL and Lesco raided on Thursday a factory in Baghbanpura and detected gas theft by the mill owner through tampering with the meter.

The team sealed the factory and got a case registered against the factory owner, officials said.

BUTCHERS BOOKED: The CDGL’s livestock chapter inspected on Thursday 11 meat shops and got cases registered against three butchers for selling unhygienic meat.

The team also discarded about 140kg substandard meat on the spot, according to department’s officials.

AUCTION: The old/out of order vehicles owned by the CDGL and the Lahore Waste Management Company were auctioned for over Rs19 million on the second day on Thursday at Lakhudero.

On Wednesday, the auction of vehicles had fetched about Rs10 million, says a press release.
