Wapda: inflated bills

Published September 8, 2013

THE role of Wapda in controlling power theft is pathetic. As a result, the country faces a colossal energy crisis. The cause of this is massive corruption and negligence by Wapda officials.

The people who bribe meter reader or other officers pay no electricity bills. On the other hand, those who pay their bills regularly and are not involved in dishonest practices receive reward in the shape of excess units or inflated electricity bills.

In Pakistan there is no reward for honesty. This compels people to resort to illegal and unacceptable options like illegal connections and bribing the officials concerned.

I am one of those who get 200 to 300 excess units of electricity every month. I live in Abdullah Town, Phase 2, Qasimabad, Hyderabad. I went from pillar to post and registered many complaints, but all in vain.

I would like to ask the water and power minister and other officers concerned why are honest people, who are never involved in power theft, sent inflated electricity bills? Why is honesty in our country not rewarded?
