KARACHI: Bandits jailed for two years

KARACHI, Dec 12: The district and sessions judge, Central, Zafar Ahmed Khan Sheerwani, sentenced on Wednesday three bandits to two years’ rigorous imprisonment.

The judge also imposed a fine of Rs500 each on the accused, Mohammed Feroze, Mohammed Javed and Mohammed Nadeem, who would have to undergo an additional three months’ RI in case of default on the payment of fine.

The three were convicted of robbing a woman, Riaz Bano, of her jewellery on July 11 last year in the limits of the New Karachi police.

ACQUITTED: An additional district and sessions judge, East, Sagheer Husain Zaidi, acquitted two workers of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement in a police encounter case.

The judge acquitted Waseem alias Waseem Bhutto and Jawaid of the charge of attacking a police party for want of incriminating evidence against them.

The two were booked by the Saudabad police on July 3, 1994, under sections 353 and 324 of PPC.

The special anti-narcotics court, headed by Judge Ali Nawaz Pirzada, convicted two drug traffickers in separate cases and sentenced them to five years’ RI each.

Accused Nasir Khan, arrested on July 17, last year with two kg charas by the Jackson police, was also fined Rs5,000. The drug pusher would have to undergo an additional three months’ RI if he failed to pay the fine.

The judge imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on Saleem Ahmed, who was caught on Feb 27 this year with one kg heroin by the Anti-narcotics Force here at the airport.

The judicial magistrate, East, Javed Iqbal, sentenced a drug peddler to to two years’ RI for possessing 30 gram heroin.

The accused, arrested on May 30 this year by the Korangi police, was also fied Rs3,000. He would have to undergo an additional one month’s RI if he failed to pay the fine.

The accused, arrested earlier this year with 10 gram heroin by the Aziz Bhatti police, would have to undergo an additional one month’s RI if he failed to pay the fine.

The same court sentenced a motorcycle thief to 18 months’ RI.

The accused, who had stolen the motorcycle of Nauman last year in Aziz Bhatti police area, was also fined Rs2,000. He would have to undergo an additional one month’s RI if he failed to pay the fine.

BAIL GRANTED: An additional district and sessions judge, West, Ms Naseem Mansoor, granted bail to two workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in a triple-murder case.

The judge gave Riyaz Chacha and Naeem Munna bail in the sum of Rs100,000 each.

The Muttahida men were booked, in 1998, by the Mominabad police for kidnapping and killing three workers of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement, Irfan, Zaman and an unknown man.
