LAHORE: Mian Marghoob Ahmad of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) on Wednesday emerged victorious after unofficial results of recounting at Lahore’s PP-150 seat, DawnNews reported.

Recounting was conducted at 147 polling stations of the provincial seat on the orders of acting Chief Election Commissioner, Justice Tassaduq Husain Jilani, after he took suo moto notice of PTI’s protest of alleged rigging during the August 22 by-elections.

According to the unofficial results of the recount, PTI’s Mehr Wajid Azeem managed to secure 18,073 votes compared to 18,526 votes for PML-N’s Mian Marghoob.

Returning officer, Javed Iqbal Warraich said recounting was completed under his close supervision and the presence of the two candidates.

“Mian Marghoob of the PML-N received 18,526. PTI’s Mehr Wajid received 18,073 votes,” said Warraich after the recounting process was completed.

The returning officer claimed that both parties were satisfied over the result of the recounting process.

However, Wajid refused to accept the result. The PTI candidate said the recounting officer was told of anomalies in the system, but no attention was given to his complaints.
