LAHORE, Aug 24: Two young lovebirds, who simultaneously took poisonous pills at their respective residences in Ali Razaabad locality of Chuhng, died at Jinnah Hospital on Saturday.

Chuhng SHO Hasnain Haider said Yawar Abbas, 20, and Ghazala alias Ghazal got acquaintance some time ago and started talking on cell phones.

He said both of them sought permission from their families for the marriage, but their requests were turned down.

The victims spoke to each other on cell phone before swallowing poisonous pills. They were rushed to Jinnah Hospital where both of them died. The girl was intermediate and Yawar was a BA student.

KILLED: An alleged criminal was killed in an encounter with police in Sabzazar early on Saturday.

Police said Attique Khalid, 30, was a robber-cum-murderer.

Police inquiries revealed that accomplices of Khalid got him freed from police custody in the limits of Sarwer Road police station when he was being taken to a court for the hearing of a case a couple of days back.

Acting on a tip-off, the South Cantonment police raided a place in Green Park, but Khalid and his accomplices fired at them. In retaliation, Khalid was killed while his accomplices managed to escape. Police seized a weapon from the spot.

Police said accused Khalid of Kasur was a dismissed cop of the Elite Police who had killed a constable during an encounter in 2004.

DIES: An unidentified man in his 30s was knocked down and killed by a train in Raiwind on Saturday.

Police said the victim, who was apparently crossing the track, died instantly.

LIQUOR CLAIMS LIFE: A 25-year-old man died after consuming poisonous liquor in Rehmanpura here on Saturday.

Wahdat Colony police said Muhammad Naveed, who consumed liquor along with his friends, fell unconscious. He was shifted to a hospital where he died.
